The road leading to this entrance is typically closed from October to June due to snow. It is the closest entrance to the Sunrise Visitor Center.
Steven Canyon (Southeast Entrance):
This entrance is closed from October to April and is closest to the Ohanapecosh Visitor Center.

A short 0.5-mile hike from the Sunrise Visitor Center leads to an open field of wildflowers. If you're up for a bit more adventure, consider a 3 to 5-mile hike to one of the seven Fire Lookouts for a breathtaking "on top of the world" experience.

WHEN IS THE IDEAL TIME TO HAVE YOUR ELOPEMENT AT MOUNT RAINIER NATIONAL PARK?
For the most enchanting experience at Mount Rainier National Park, we recommend considering a wedding between July and September, with early October being the latest suitable option. During this period, all entrances to the park are open and welcoming visitors of every kind.
My (Henry's) first encounter with the park was in early July when I stumbled upon a trail leading to a Fire Lookout. The beauty of the place left me in awe—clear skies, vibrant wildflowers, and an overall magical atmosphere. Undoubtedly, the summer months stand out as the optimal time to explore and tie the knot at Mount Rainier.
However, it's crucial to be transparent about the weather, especially in the unpredictable climate of the Pacific Northwest. While you can anticipate more sunny days during the summer, be prepared for the possibility of experiencing sun, rain, and snow all in a single day during your elopement.
From late October to mid-June, the options may be a bit more limited due to snow on trails or roads leading up to the mountain. The Nisqually entrance remains open year-round and takes you to the Paradise Visitor Center. During winter, when other entrances are closed, this route is well-maintained with plow trucks running during the daytime. This means that although you can still have your ceremony, some extra gear may be necessary to keep warm and ensure safety. WHERE SHOULD YOU LODGE FOR YOUR MOUNT RAINIER NATIONAL PARK ELOPEMENT?
As previously mentioned, the vastness of Mount Rainier, with its four entrances, offers diverse options for accommodations. Depending on the level of adventure you desire for your special day, you can opt to stay inside the park or choose a location near one of the entrances.
Inside the park, you have the following options:
National Park Inn (Longmire): Approximately half an hour from Paradise.
Paradise Inn: Situated at the pinnacle of the mountain.
For those seeking a more adventurous atmosphere, consider staying at one of the campgrounds within the park, such as Cougar Rock Campground, Ohanapecosh Campground, White River Campground, or Mowich Lake Campground.
If you prefer accommodations outside the park, you can explore options like Wellspring Spa, Storm King Cabins, A-Frame Cabins, and more. These locations offer greater flexibility as you can select a cabin based on your specific needs, capacity requirements, and desired amenities.
Staying outside the National Park also comes with fewer restrictions, providing more freedom for your wedding plans. For instance, you can hire caterers for an intimate reception dinner with a stunning view.
